Default Idea for Reducing the Grind: A Compromise?

Okay. I don't like the whole unlock grind thing, as many people don't; I don't feel I should have to play through the whole game with three different characters and farm for hours on end just in order to unlock everything to use for my PvP characters.

However, I understand where the PvE folks are coming from in wanting people to work for their skills and items rather than just having a UAS button. So, here's my thoughts on what could be done...

Normal Skills:
-A new system called "unlock points". You can spend unlock points to unlock a new skill from a class that is NOT one of the ones you are playing right now (if you were playing a W/Mo, you could use unlock points on Elementalist, Mesmer, Ranger, or Necromancer, but not on Warrior or Monk).
-Whenever you unlock a skill from a trainer or from a quest, you gain two unlock points.
-The reason for doing this is so that the unlock points will allow a person to unlock all the skills for playing any class using one character and only having to reach all the skills for that one character. Because there are an equal number of skills for each class (75, I think?), when you have unlocked all the skills of your primary and secondary professions via normal skill points, you will have gained exactly enough unlock points to unlock all the skills for all other classes. (75 skills from two professions = 150 skills; 150 skills = 300 unlock points; there are 300 skills total from the other four, so it'd be exactly the right number.) Because of this, a person will still have to gain all the skills for a main character (which is still quite difficult and time-consuming!) and thus will have to play through the game on one character, but won't have to play it again on two more.

Elite Skills:
-Split the Signets of Capture into class-based signets, so there'd be an Elementalist Signet of Capture, a Mesmer Signet of Capture, etc, and you would be forced to use the signet that corresponds with the profession of the skill in order to capture it. These could be purchased with unlock points and from skill trainers.
-Even when the Signets are purchased with unlock points, they can be equipped in your normal skill bar (whereas normal skills purchased with unlock points cannot).
-If you have a Signet, you can use it on a boss to capture a skill, even if that skill is not of one of your current professions. It works normally and you can use it in PvE if it is one of your character's professions; if not, it is still unlocked but you cannot use it on that RP character unless you change secondaries to that profession.

Runes:
-Whenever you gain a skill point from a mission or from filling your experience bar past level 20, you also gain a "rune point".
-Rune points can be used to unlock (NOT buy for PvE, just unlock for PvP) runes. For the price of one rune point, you can get four minors, two majors, or one superior.
-Whenever you unlock a rune normally (via identifying something) you also gain one rune point.
-Possible alternative/addition to the above: Allow people to purchase unidentified runes with gold. You could choose the profession and level of the rune, and it'd have a significant price (not sure exactly what it'd be at the moment), but you'd be able to also unlock runes that way, and it'd be random which you got because it could be from any of that profession's 4-5 attributes. This also allows for a pseudo-PvP-unlocking system in that guilds/people who win the hall can sell sigils to get gold and use that gold to buy unidentified runes (which can theoretically be done through the player market right now but it is very hard to find such things in quantity).

Weapon Upgrades:
-Have them purchasable and unlockable for a certain amount of gold (but not as much as runes) in Droknar's Forge. I don't think they're quite as important as the skills and runes.

I was also thinking about having it give unlock/rune points through the arena, but that's too abusable. Maybe upon gaining a certain amount of fame, or gaining a rank?

If you've made it this far through my post, thanks for reading. Comments/suggestions are welcome.

The whole point of Guild Wars was for people to enjoy the RP game and then play PvP as a way of extending the life of the game. Seriously, quit whining about it and enjoy the bloody game.

A flame already? Did you actually read my post? It wasn't a whine about the grind, I was offering suggestions to make it more reasonable (as GW was advertised as a game with little to no grind). I said that people should work for their skills, so... what are you yelling about?

I don't think Anet are going to take your suggestions on board unless they're simple fixes, Shamarah. A lot of that stuff just sounds like too much work to add.

Oh really, and do you have any quotes to back this up or are you just talking crap?

You might also want to look up the definition for whining (in a dictionary), because I didn't see any of that here. Get a clue please.

I don't expect them to. I just thought up this stuff when I was bored and figured it couldn't hurt to dream.
